McCann Birmingham welcomes students to gain industry insight

University students from across the midlands were recently invited to one of the leading marketing communications agencies to gain an insight into the industry.

McCann Birmingham, one of the largest integrated agencies in the region, invited local students to go behind the scenes and get a taste of agency life. The afternoon was designed to inspire students, demonstrate the diversity of careers available within the industry and provide guidance on getting a foot on the career ladder.

Around 15 Students from BCU, Coventry University, University of Northampton and others, joined a workshop which included application tips and first-hand advice from members of the McCann team including Caitlyn Jones, a Junior Creative who joined the company as an intern just nine months ago and is now a permanent member of the creative team. The students also heard from Executive Creative Director, Adam Bodfish who shared his career journey and experience.

Students also heard key marketing lessons from Chief Creative Officer, Vince McSweeney, and met staff from a range of departments.

Ollie Purdom, Chief Talent Officer at McCann Birmingham said: “It was fantastic to welcome these students to our office to not just demonstrate the variety of career opportunities available within our industry, but also show how building a successful career in advertising and marketing is a viable option within our region.

“Under our roof alone, we have a hugely diverse range of roles – from strategists and researchers, content creators, designers, planners and project managers to name a few. We hope that in just a few short hours we’ve been able to ignite a spark of excitement in the minds of those who attended. Perhaps we’ll see them again in the not-too-distant future!”

McCann Birmingham is deeply committed to supporting young people entering the industry, offering a range of internship and apprenticeship opportunities for those from all backgrounds.
